Professional Experience
Stanton D. Weinstein is an experienced intellectual property (IP) attorney located near Philadelphia, PA. Stan previously spent much of his career as an in-house intellectual property counsel for a major corporation in the defense electronics industry. Stan's extensive experience includes patent, trademark and copyright law and practice, protection of proprietary information, and other aspects of intellectual property law; U.S. Government procurement regulations and clauses relating to patent rights and data rights; computer law, such as Internet/intranet issues, software licensing, and open source software issues; export controls; and intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions. He began his intellectual property career with the U.S. Navy-wide Field Patent Program, including special assignments as Acting Patent Counsel, Naval Air Development Center, Warminster, PA, and as Acting Patent Counsel, Naval Training Equipment Center, Orlando, FL.
Stan is President of Benjamin Franklin American Inn of Court, where he has also served as President-elect, Vice President and Program Chair, Treasurer, Board Member and CLE Coordinator. A longtime member of AIPLA and ABA, Stan is the Section Parliamentarian of ABA-IPL, a member of the ABA Cybersecurity Legal Task Force, the ABA-IPL Liaison to the ABA Commission on Disability Rights, and the ABA-IPL Observer to the WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents (SCP). He is a former Chair of the AIPLA Privacy & Data Security Committee, a former Chair of the AIPLA Mergers and Acquisitions Committee, a former Vice Chair of the ABA-IPL Patents Division, a former Co-Chair of the ABA-IPL AI/ML Task Force, and a former Chair of the ABA-IPL Patent Legislation Committee. He is also a former member of the ABA House of Delegates and of its Technology and Communications Committee. Stan is also a past President of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association (PIPLA), where he has also served as an officer, Board Member, and Chair of three Committees, and received the PIPLA 2024 Distinguished IP Practitioner Award. He is also a past President and officer of the Central New York Patent Law Association.
Stan was awarded a B.S.E.E. from Drexel University, a J.D. from Villanova University (receiving its Herman J. Obert Award in Corporations Law), and an M.S.E.E. from Syracuse University. He is admitted to the Bars of Pennsylvania, New York, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts and various Federal Courts. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Stan is also a Life Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, and a longtime volunteer historical interpreter at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.
